Dangers of Bumbo Floor Seat

On August 15, 2012, South African based Bumbo International announced that it was recalling about 4 million Bumbo Floor Seats because babies can wriggle out of the seat and fall, posing a serious injury risk. Bumbo and the Consumer Product Safety Commission know of at least 84 incidents of infants falling out of the popular baby seat. The 84 reported incidents came after Bumbo’s 2007 recall, which was issued to add labels to the seat warning of the risk of using the seat on elevated surfaces, such as countertops or tables.

Fifty of the 84 incidents did involve the seat being placed on an elevated surface, however, 34 accidents occurred while the infant was seated on the floor. As a result of the 84 Bumbo Floor Seat accidents, 21 infants sustained skull fractures and many others sustained minor injuries. Consumers are being told to stop using the recalled infant seats immediately and to discontinue use until a restraint belt kit is installed.

More than 70 Years Collective Experience

Sadly, many recalls such as this one, are issued only after numerous children have been seriously injured. If your child sustained a serious injury while sitting in a Bumbo Floor Seat, don’t talk to anyone before first talking to a skilled California dangerous product attorney at the law firm of Estey Bomberger. For several decades throughout the state, we have helped victims obtain substantial settlements and verdicts for the damages related to a serious injury caused by the use of a dangerous product. As parents, we are particularly sensitive to cases involving innocent children and believe companies like Bumbo should be held accountable for failing to provide a safe product.
